Arcona 435 Mk II, Ohana took line honours in the ARC 2024 Cruising Class B closely followed in 2nd place by Arcona 435 Mk II, Gentoo. Congratulations to both crews on their success with these fast luxury bluewater cruisers.
On 4th December, Ohana‘s owner posted, “The crew is all doing fantastically, mainly because we’re stuffed to the gills with food and drink, and our water maker is the ultimate party animal, refilling our tanks daily. The open ocean is a ridiculously cool place!”
Facing mixed weather conditions, three days from the finish, Ken said, “5 D’s of overnight squall dodging: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!…With the sun coming up over our shoulder we are back on track and heading for St Lucia!! The Ohana crew did an awesome job in tough conditions! Great team work makes the dream work!! 400 NM to go.”
Early on 10th December, The Ohana owner said, “After sixteen days at sea, we’re now just 45 nautical miles from St Lucia. Although the overnight squall left us drenched, a breathtaking sunrise and some impressive moustache growth have revitalised us. We just have the final down wind leg of our journey and we’ll be crossing the finish line and enjoying cocktails with our shore crew in Rodney Bay later today. Epic!”
On Tuesday 10th December, Arcona 435 Mk II, Ohana, finished the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers after 16 days and 5 hours of sailing. She is owned by Ken Wisdom and had a total crew of five for the Atlantic crossing which began in Gran Canaria and ended at Rodney Bay in Saint Lucia.
The squally conditions caused some intense sailing for Arcona 435 Mk II, Gentoo which hails from Jersey. Simon Rosier, crew on board and SE Yachts Director said, “After 17 days at sea crossing the Atlantic, I can honestly say the Arcona 435 Mk II is ideal for bluewater cruising. We faced all sorts of weather and the 435 handled the mixed conditions in her stride.”
Both crews are enjoying being back on land thanks to the warm welcome in Saint Lucia. Watch this space for where they will adventure too next!
