The Arcona 435 Mk II, Ohana, owned by Ken Wisdom is currently leading Cruising Class B in the ARC 2024. Gentoo, another Arcona 435 Mk II, is not too far behind. On 5th December, it looks like there could be two Arconas at the top of Class B! Ohana and Gentoo are in the top 15 boats overall out of all Cruising Classes too.
The team at Arcona Yachts HQ are in close communications with them, offering remote support whenever required. We’re also enjoying updates on their adventure as they sail their way towards the Saint Lucia finish line.
Hailing from the USA, the Ohana crew celebrated Thanksgiving on board during their ARC adventure. They set their table, enjoyed freshly caught Mahi Mahi followed by turkey cold cuts, rice and gravy while flying their A2 spinnaker at 7-8 knots into the sunset.
They passed the halfway point to Saint Lucia on Tuesday 3rd December and are now 1800 miles into their journey. With a five-strong crew aboard they are dealing with the squally conditions, which they have aptly renamed ‘little tantrums of the sea’.
Yesterday Ohana was VMG sailing downwind with full main and poled out jib, topped at 10-12 knots of speed. Ohana‘s owner, Ken, said his Arcona loves the blue water!
